There are organizations out there that are trying to promote habitat conservation through biomimicry. The basic idea is that companies should be giving back a portion of their proceeds from products or services made inspired by nature towards conservation of the habitat of the species the company borrowed the idea from. The organism spent millions of years perfecting an idea that mankind can use through evolution, and they should be rewarded by funding conservation for the habit in which they live; they are the initial rights holders of that idea!
Innovation for Conservation is a company who is promoting biomimicry and giving back to habitats. Innovation for Conservation only accepts products that do not harm the environment, people or organisms. The concept is similar to that of Energy Star; appliances with low energy usage are able to use the Energy Star logo. In the same way, companies who produce a biomimicry inspired product which does not harm the environment, people, or organisms are able to use the Innovation for Conservation logo to promote sales therefore increasing funding for habitat conservation!
